New Orleans

I'm in New Orleans!!...and I haven't written in this since the week before I left for my trip, so I'll give a quick rundown of my trip thus far (if anyone still reads this):
-I've ridden 700ish miles
-I've been through Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi already
-My camera broke on the first day of riding, so I don't have any pictures...but hopefully I'll get a new camera soon
-Biking is tiring but fun, I think my body's starting to get used to the physical toll I'm taking on it.
-Lots of houses in New Orleans are still in really terrible condition, I was in the lower 9th ward earlier today (one of the parts that was hit the most), and it's still almost dead down there...really eerie

That's all for now, hopefully more regular updates coming soon.

love,

Jon

1 Week Until I Leave!!

Wow, the past couple of months have flown by...and I've been extremely lazy with updating this thing. Anyways, as of today my fund raising total is $3401, which leaves me with just $599 left (and one week to raise that much). A huge thanks to everyone who has donated so far, especially Theresa Cacciapalle, Matt Sadowski, Don and Shelly Rosenberg, Jason Rosenberg, Andrea Bridson, Amanda Gougeon, Frankis Avvavitti, Shauna Brege, Jade Johnson, Glenn and Lori Taylor, Nikki Hartel, Eric Kuptz, Steve Linegar, Sam and Eva Taylor, Jennie Taylor, Linda VanPoperin, Amanda VanPoperin, Claire VanPoperin, Tom Barth, Emily Flynn, Brandon Joerges, Johanna Knopsnider, Richard and Sheila Barth, Heidi McCroskey, Jeff Meads, and the Northern Florida MSU Alumni Club who have all donated recently.

For those of you who are still interested in donating and haven't done so yet, head over to http://www.bikeandbuild.org/cms/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,118/ , it's quick and easy. (note: the last day that donations made on the website will count is this Sunday, June 8th)

State News and Stuff!

The state news published an article about me today!! If you found your way here from the article, thanks for visiting my happy little blog. If you'd like to join my facebook group (and you should), go here. To read the article if you haven't, go here.

I'm going to be having a benefit show at the Green River Cafe on April 25th featuring myself and my good friend Vince DiFazio playing an acoustic set of some originals, some covers, and who knows, maybe some classic tv theme songs. We'll be joined by Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate) and Dave Menzo's Band (their name escapes me at the moment). Tickets are going to be $10 tentatively, and free beer for those who are 21+. More information on that very very soon.

Ok, enough shameless self promotion. The bottle drive last weekend went extremely well, and when all was said and done I made $170 from it, thus bringing my fund raising total to $870. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far. Some people that have helped make it possible: Jake Bayer, Anthony Ciolino, Mike Hogan, Lauren Gadoua, Todd Fadoir, Amanda Gougeon, Tiffany Weber, John Morasso, and Rene Davis.

If there's ANY amount that you can donate (I mean any, I know what it's like to be a broke college student), go here. Just select Jon Barth on the drop down list, it's 100% secure, really fast and easy and 100% of it goes directly to my cause.

A graphical representation of my fund raising thus far:

I took some really neat photos when I went on a bike ride last week, but my computer doesn't seem to want to acknowledge my camera's existence, so sadly they'll have to wait.

First post. I imagine later ones will have more words and the like.
